Morris (Morrie) E. Stokes, age 88 of Eau Claire passed away to join his wife Margaret "Peggy" early Friday evening December 23, 2011 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
Morrie was born August 10, 1923 to Berlie M. and Sarah (Sadie) McKinster-Stokes in Eau Claire. He attended elementary school on the north side and graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1941. Morrie married Margaret Payne on November 21, 1943. He entered military serviced on January 21, 1943 and spent two years overseas in the European Theater of Operations and was discharged December 5, 1945. He served with the 391st AAA(AW) Bn. And spent part of the time guarding German Prisoners of War including Field Marshal Herman Goering and other high ranking prisoners prior to their trials in Nuranburg. He was a life member of VFW Post 305, Eau Claire.

Morrie was employed in the credit business for over 40 years and became President of the Wisconsin Collectors Association. He was a past member of several civic organizations including the Elks Lodge, Moose Club, Toastmasters Club, Boy Scouts, Charter Member of the Indianhead Curling Club, and Lion's Club. He was also active in helping organize high school class reunions for many years. He enjoyed traveling, dancing, camping, and family. Morrie was a long standing member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was an usher, greeter, and worked in the church pantry.
Survivors include: daughters, Sherry (David) Schultz, Denise Stokes of Eau Claire, and son, Gary (Veronica) Stokes of Clinton, Utah; eight grandchildren, great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Lois Stokes, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack (Mary) Bell of Walnut Creek, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret on May 26, 2008 for over 64 years of marriage, one son, Morris and a brother Rae.
Funeral services will be at 11 am on Wednesday December 28, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1314 Lexington Blvd., Eau Claire, WI 54701. Pastor Kurt Jacobson will officiate. Burial will immediately follow the service in Forest Hill Cemetery in Eau Claire with military honors being rendered by VFW Post #305. Visitation will take place at the church on Wednesday morning from 10 am until the time of service. Friends may offer condolences online at www.fullerspeckienhulke.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the food pantry at Trinity Lutheran Church. Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, WI 54701 is assisting the family with the arrangements.
