Dr. Thomas J. Doyle, December 26, 2013

Dr. Thomas J. Doyle

Dr. Thomas James OʼLeary Doyle, 72, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Bonita Springs, Florida died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 26 in Eden Prairie, Minnesota surrounded by family.

Tom was born on June 28, 1941 in Superior, Wisconsin to Dr. Thomas and Mary Alice (O'Leary) Doyle. He attended Superior Cathedral grade and high school. He ventured to the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts where he recently celebrated great memories at his 50th reunion. He went on to attend Marquette University Medical School, proud to graduate a third generation physician in 1967. After internship in Duluth, Minnesota and service as a general medical officer at Lowry Air Force base in Denver, Colorado, he completed urology training at the Medical College of Milwaukee in 1974.

Tom, started his medical career in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in the summer of 1974, eventually founding Western Wisconsin Urology. He cared for patients for 33 years at clinics in Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, Bloomer, Menomonie, Durand, Arcadia, and Wabasha. He was honored to be the first lay person appointed to the executive board of Sacred Heart Hospital. He was an avid environmentalist, particularly passionate about the South Florida ecosystem and the area around Little Red, the beloved lake home he owned since 1978. He will be remembered for his constant motion, pursuing his passions for marathoning, birding, kayaking, snow and water skiing and grand-parenting with utter abandon.

Tom married his wife of 48 years, Margie McNamara, in 1965. Together they proudly raised four children and eventually were blessed with seven grandchildren, They spent a lifetime actively living life to the fullest--golfing, traveling the world, pontooning, and celebrating simple moments with family and friends. Tom was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Eau Claire Golf and Country Club and Bonita Bay Club.

Tom is survived by his wife, Margie, and their four children: Dr. Shannon Doyle (Dr. Gene Gullingsrud) of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Tom Doyle (Laura Pereria) of St. Paul, Minnesota, Daniel Doyle (Dr. Grainne Quinn) of Dublin, Ireland and Katie Doyle (Don Decker) of Louisville, Kentucky, and seven grandchildren: Sam and Lily Doyle of St. Paul, Jack and Olivia of Dublin, Marne and Delaney Decker of Louisville and Phoebe Gullinsrud of Eden Prairie. He is also survived by three siblings, Mary Alice Doyle, Ann Molter and Matthew Doyle as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, WI 54701 on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 2-6 pm with a 6 pm prayer service to conclude the evenings visitation. Visitation will continue on Monday morning at the church from 10 am until the time of service.  A mass of Christian burial will take place at Immaculate Conception Church, 1712 Highland Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54701 at 11 am on Monday, December 30, 2013 with Father Donald Meuret officiating.  Entombment will immediately follow the service in the Chapel of the Resurrection Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery in Eau Claire. The family requests the “wearinʼ of the green” to these events to celebrate Tomʼs pride in his Irish roots and his beloved Green Bay Packers.

The family requests memorials be made to Sacred Heart Hospital, the Long Lake Foundation or the environmental organization of your choice.

Friends and family may offer condolences online at www.fullerspeckienhulke.com.

Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Remembered Joy

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free!

I follow the plan God laid for me.

I saw His face, I heard His call,

I took His hand and left it all...

I could not stay another day,

To love, to laugh, to work or play;

Tasks left undone must stay that way.

And if my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss...

Ah yes, these things I, too, shall miss.

My life's been full, I've savoured much:

Good times, good friends, a loved-one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief—

Don't shorten yours with undue grief.

Be not burdened with tears of sorrow,

Enjoy the sunshine of the morrow.

                                    -Irish Blessing

  42. Dody, Darlene, & Maxine at Max's December 28, 2013

We were so shocked and saddened after reading about the death of Dr. Tom Doyle. We will always think of him as a kind, happy man who deeply cared about his family. It is with a smile that we remember he and Margie coming to Max's, pontooning from their cabin across the lake. It also seemed to become an annual tradition when they came over with their children and grandchildren. What a close, caring family they were...and we feel so much sympathy for the loss in their lives.

Tom's love of Long Lake was always apparent...and we were so lucky to have someone who definitely was so concerned with its preservation. His family are certain to carry that passion forward.

We know that Margie and his entire family will miss him so much.....and will be thankful for the ways he enriched their lives. All of us will miss him too....and know that we just lost an important member of the Long Lake community.
